Tips and Inspiration from with @saveurmag '19 Best Food Culture Blog Winner
Who am ?
Hi my name is Heifa Odeh and I am a food blogger who specializes in Middle Eastern cuisine but also a fusion of dishes from different regions. I do recipe development and food photography for brands as well. I thoroughly enjoy teaching my peers how to make easy wholesome meals. I would like to think that my work is very approachable and therefore so many benefits from it, Alhamdulilah.
How I got started and the struggles I went through to get to where I am today.
I was going through a difficult time. I had just moved from NJ to Illinois to be with my husband and I left my family, friends, and job behind to start new. The transition wasn't easy to say the least but this blog blossomed as a result of it. My husband is in IT and made the website for me and supported my passion of cooking and baking. It was a way for me to invest my time and continue to explore something I deeply love. It helped bring a lot of joy back into my life being able to share recipes from my childhood and mom. It made me feel close.
I've struggled with the thought of failure for many many years. I have always been cautious because I never wanted to risk failing. I can't even pinpoint one scenario but what I can say is
I have learned to not let the thought of failure take hold of me. So much can happen when you just let go and have tawakul.
"If you fail, you will learn something out of it. And if you tried, and didn't fail then the beauty of what can be is so worth it."
FOOD INDUSTRY & BLOGGING
I can say do proper research. Google can be your best friend. Whether you are trying to learn how to take better photos or figuring out SEO; there is so much free info out there for us to use.
The food and blogging industry will always be huge in my opinion. Especially now with many jobs shifting to a work from home approach. Many more people will be at home to start cooking their own meals and therefore will need inspiration from food bloggers like myself.
Some Great Advice to Follow Your Dreams!
If you are in a dark place remind yourself that this is temporary. This will only make you a stronger and better person.
"Alhamdulilah for all the blessings I do have."
Be persistent and true to yourself. Your best work will happen when you enjoy it the most and you are authentic. Don't be afraid to mess up. You will learn as you go as practice does make better!
I listen to my audience for what they would like to see. Also, I pay attention to the season and what is most popular. I gain inspiration from my pantry, food shopping, and my peers in the industry.
"Don't be afraid to put yourself out there for what you are passionate for."
Just go for it! What do you have to lose? Maybe start slow. This was a side job for me for a long time and not until a few months ago it became a full time job.
