How I Started up my own Bespoke Scarf Company.
Who Am I?

My name is Nida and I'm the designer of a custom scarf company called Headed Somewear.
I studied mathematics in college and realized just how hard it was for women to go into fields that are considered "unconventional". Since a child, I've always felt the media only represented a specific type of beauty, intellect, and career for a woman. I felt like that wasn't how it should be - a woman can do anything she sets her mind to. It doesn't matter what she looks like or what she wants to do with her life. Once I realized this, I knew I wanted to be apart of a brand that really empowers women to embrace the parts of them that are considered "unconventional" and be who they are meant to be. Fashion is a powerful tool and it can really be used to express a person's personality. My story kind of started when I was in college. I started selling hand stitched hijabs and my brand evolved and changed into what it is now. I had a lot of support from family and friends Allhumdilillah and it really helped me learn a LOT.
1. It'll all be worth it in the end
2. You can do it - anything that says otherwise is just fear.
3. Be kind / welcoming. It's important to be human first and then a businesswoman.
Our company has changed names. It used to be called "That Hijabi". We felt like it was a great name when we first started but later on, we realized it didn't really go with our brand. Because we wanted our scarves to be available to women of all religions, we felt like the name "That Hijabi" wasn't representative of our brand. Because of that, we realized that we should change our name to Headed Somewear.
Some GREAT Advice to follow your dreams!
I'd say be YOU. Try to implement your own personality as MUCH as possible because it's super important. It will be what will distinguish you. Make friends and have a team/group of people you can bounce ideas off of.
Build a sisterhood!! It's really important to do that. I have so many friends and other business owners (including Alex) who are people I like to talk to, bounce ideas off of, and just support. It's really important to have a team because they'll have your back if you ever need anything and it's also SO great to be able to help them too.
When I have an idea, I make it a note to jot it down. Even if it's at 4 AM and I wake up in the middle of the night - if an idea comes to me, I write it down. Then, I spend time thinking about how the idea feels. Would I wear it? Would someone else wear it? I imagine the idea as a reality. Then I send it for production/manufacturing.
Just start! If you cant stop thinking about it and keep coming back to it, it means you're meant for it!
